On Friday, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, James Bonifant sentenced defendant, Tyrece Jones, 21, of Oxon Hill to 25 years in prison suspend all but eight years and five years of supervised probation upon release, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Jones was convicted by a jury in October 2022 on charges of carjacking and second degree assault.

MCPD News Release 1.21.21: Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have charged Tyrece A. Jones, age 19, of the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill, with the January 14 assault and armed carjacking of a 42-year-old female that occurred at a gas station in Chevy Chase. The investigation by detectives determined that at approximately 8:23 p.m. on January 14, the victim was at a gas station located at 8500 Connecticut Avenue and had just finished pumping gas into her car when the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, approached her.  The victim attempted to quickly enter her vehicle, but the suspect stopped her and began assaulting her.  The victim then attempted to flee on foot, but the suspect pursued her and continued to assault her.   During the assault, the suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and demanded her car keys.  The suspect obtained the victim’s car keys and struck the victim in the upper body with the handgun before stealing the victim’s car and fleeing the area.   The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries.
