Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Investigative Section have arrested and charged 30-year-old Eugene Thompson (a.k.a. Michael Stewart), of Washington, D.C., with the strong-armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., at the Giant grocery store in the 18200 block of Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg.
The adult male victim stated that he was shopping inside the store when he observed Thompson along with a group of male suspects acting disorderly. When the victim approached the suspects and asked them to stop, the suspects surrounded the victim, with Thompson making anti-Semitic statements towards him. Thompson then is alleged to have begun physically assaulting the victim, causing him to lose consciousness. Thompson and the other suspects then left store. The victim’s keys were taken following the assault.
Justin Kuchta, age 39, of Annapolis, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to a federal charge for threatening to murder a United States Member of Congress. The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron; Chief J. Thomas Manger of the United States Capitol Police; and Acting Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, Lt. Colonel Dalaine Brady.
“You have the right to your own opinions, but not the right to threaten a federal official’s life,” said United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Erek L. Barron. “We’ll continue prosecuting these threats to the fullest extent of the law.”

On January 13, 2023, Rockville City Police responded to Richard Montgomery High School (RMHS) for the report of an assault which occurred inside the school and an allegation that a handgun had been displayed off school grounds forcing the school to enter a brief period of lockdown.
According to Rockville City Police, “through a joint investigation with RMHS Staff and MCPS Security, RCPD Investigators learned several students from Gaithersburg High School entered RMHS with the assistance of RMHS students. The Gaithersburg students were led to one of the school’s restrooms during school hours where they became victims of a robbery by several RMHS students.
Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 1st District Patrol Investigative Unit are investigating a theft from a delivery truck that occurred on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the 5700 block of Bou Avenue. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the suspects and their vehicles and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.
The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 10:50 a.m., two unknown suspects entered a UPS truck, while the driver was inside a building making deliveries. Once inside, the two suspects forced their way into the back of the truck and stole multiple packages. A third suspect, wearing a security uniform stood in the area as a lookout. All three suspects left the scene in two separate vehicles of similar style.
The Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) is looking for car donations. Donations will help more high school students learn how to evaluate, repair and restore used cars. The ATF is a nonprofit that fosters automotive education by offering students hands-on instruction in maintenance, repair, sales and marketing. The students run a mini-dealership where people can purchase the refurbished cars. The ATF accepts donations year-round by appointment at Damascus, Gaithersburg and Seneca Valley high schools, at Thomas Edison High School of Technology and at the Shady Grove Bus Depot. The City of Rockville has announced that new speed cameras will be coming to 900 block of Veirs Mill Rd. The cameras will be installed around February 1, but citations will not begin being issued until March 1. Per Rockville: “In a continuing effort to reduce the number of speeding vehicles in Rockville neighborhoods, the Rockville City Police Department will begin deployment this month of speed monitoring systems in the 900 block of Veirs Mill Road, near the intersection with Gail Avenue.
The system will use portable cameras to monitor both eastbound and westbound traffic beginning on or about Feb. 1. While the system will be fully functional, citations will not be issued during February. Beginning March 1, citations will be issued for vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by 12 mph or more. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 15-year-old from Silver Spring.
Monte Bayne was last seen on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at his residence on Martins Derry Circle in Silver Spring. Monte is approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a kitchen fire at a single-family duplex on State Ct., off of Girard St, in Gaithersburg on Thursday morning. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated from an unattended pot of cooking oil that overheated on the stove. Damage is is estimated to be $100K, including $75k in structure and $25K in contents. Two adults and three children have been displaced. One adult was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries due to smoke inhalation. We will post an update when additional information is available.
