Aspen Hill

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a kitchen fire on the 3200 block of Hewitt Ave in Aspen Hill a little before 8am on Thursday morning. According to MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer, smoke was showing from the first floor of a three-story apartment building that caused all residents to be evacuated.

The fire started in and around the stove/oven in the kitchen when combustibles in a bottom drawer storage area we’re too close to the heat source. It was quickly extinguished by crews on the scene and approximately $1,000 in damages was incurred. There were no injuries and all residents were able to  re-occupy the building.

Silver Spring

10PM Update: According to MCPD, “Officers responded to the back of the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road at approximately 6pm for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located a male that was transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition. During the investigation, K9 officers located a deceased person in a wooded area. MCPD is on scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding this person’s death.”

8PM Update: Montgomery County Police responded to a shooting in the 9000 blk of Piney Branch Rd in Silver Spring on Monday, November 9, around 6:30pm. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, Montgomery County Police 3rd District Officers aided the victim of the shooting prior to MCFRS arrival. The victim was transported by EMS to an area Trauma Center. We will post an update when more information becomes available. This was the second shooting today in Silver Spring. This morning at approximately 4 a.m., MCPD officers responded to the area of Colony Road and Northampton Drive for the report of shots fired.  Officers arrived on scene and located a deceased person, with trauma to the body, to the rear area of the 100 block of Colony Road. 


MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire beteeen two homes on Smoketree Rd and Post Oak Rd On Wednesday, according to MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer.

The cause of the fire was a 50 foot light duty extension cord that was charging a Chevy Volt electric vehicle. The cord overheated and melted, which caused a short that ignited the nearby dried brush. The fire spread to the nearby trees, leaves, and fence, when a neighbor noticed it and called 911. Crews were able to quickly put out the fire without much damage.


DC Sports

A Commanders spokesperson released the following statement in response to DC Attorney General Karl Racine’s announcement of a press conference that will be held tomorrow at noon where a “major announcement regarding the Washington Commanders” will be made. The statement from a Commanders spokesperson can be seen below, followed by a tweet by Commanders running back Brian Robinson’s agent, Ryan Williams.

Less than three months ago, a 23- year-old player on our team was shot multiple times, in broad daylight. Despite the out -of-control violent crime in DC, today the Washington Commanders learned for the first time on Twitter that the D.C. Attorney General will be holding a press conference to “make a major announcement” related to the organization tomorrow.


Bethesda

“Saved by the Bell’s” Mario Lopez will be appearing at Westfield Montgomery Mall on Sunday, November 20 to host a holiday concert to benefit Children’s National Hospital.  The event is open to the public, but RSVPs are encouraged and will enter guests in to win a meet and greet with Mario Lopez.  Funds donated at the event will directly benefit activities and memorable moments for childhood-aged patients residing at the hospital. Gaithersburg

Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE:FRT) announced today that Sodexo committed its U.S. headquarters to 915 Meeting Street, a new 276,000-square-foot trophy office building currently under construction at the award-winning mixed-use development of Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, Maryland. Sodexo’s headquarters are currently located at 9801 Washingtonian Blvd in Gaithersburg (next to Rio Lakefront).

Sodexo will be taking 52,000 square feet, along with Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH), which signed a long-term lease to occupy 105,000 square feet. Maryland

Current Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who has been rumored to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2024, has told CBS News reporter Robert Costa that last night’s election results move him closer to a 2024 bid. Costa tweeted that Hogan told him “I felt like I was on a lifeboat all by myself” in the GOP “with everybody on the Trump Titanic. Now, we need a bigger boat” and is looking to lead the return of “normal Republicans.”

Costa went to to tweet, “Hogan said he was “getting calls all night” from donors and GOP officials. “They were saying it’s a good night for Larry Hogan,” he recalled with a laugh.” “I think there is a battle for which direction the Republican Party will go. My side of the party had a really good night. Trump’s side did not,”
