Silver Spring

Weller’s Dry Cleaning at 8237 Fenton St. in Silver Spring will permanently close on April 23, according to a report by Source of the Spring. Signage on the front door refers customers to Kessler’s Cleaners at 1304 East West Hwy in Silver Spring. Built in 1960, the dry cleaner was opened by Charles Weller, who ran the dry cleaner for over 50 years. The location is known for maintaining its original 1960’s design/architecture.

Burtonsville

Over 25 firefighters responded to House of Printing Inc (15401 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville) after a cell phone was dropped into a printing press wand started a fire, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday afternoon. There were no injuries reported.


Maryland

Last week, the Maryland House and Senate voted and passed House Bill 1, which will add a constitutional amendment for cannabis use on the ballot in this November’s election.

According to the Cannabis Business Times, “the Maryland House voted, 94-39, on April 1 to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot via House Bill 1, asking the state’s constituency if it favors legalization of cannabis use by those 21 and older by July 1, 2023. That vote concurred with Senate amendments to the bill.”

Bethesda

Chicken on the Run, a Peruvian chicken restaurant located 4933 St Elmo Ave in Bethesda, has announced its closure on the restaurant’s website.

The restaurant first opened its doors in 2002 and announced that it will be closing due to landlords not renewing the lease. The Chicken on the Run website states the business is closed and the full notice, which is cut off on the website, states the following:


Wheaton

Holy Cross Health leaders previously announced that they have signed a lease for a location to build phase one of a two-phase plan to create a convenient community-based Cancer Center in Wheaton. The new location will relocate and replace the current Radiation Treatment Center, adding, in phase two, medical and surgical services as well as advanced imaging and an expansion of navigation, care coordination, and supportive services.

Phase I (Aug. 2022): Replace and relocate current radiation oncology services.
