Beyond MoCo

On July 15, 2025, a Frederick County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a Baltimore man during a traffic stop on Route 340 after a K9 unit detected narcotics and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 385 grams of suspected cocaine.

Maryland

Eater DC recently unveiled its list of “The Best Bakeries Around D.C.,” featuring standout destinations for “extra-crusty levain, flaky croissants, brioche doughnuts, baklava, cupcakes, French baguettes, and everything in between.” Among the bakeries recognized, Fresh Baguette and Boulangerie Christophe, which have locations in Maryland, were highlighted. However, only one bakery on the list originated in Maryland.

Kensington

With exterior construction nearly complete at the Kensington Crossing shopping center, located at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road), the five businesses that have signed on are set to begin interior construction as they prepare to open in the coming months. Mezeh has received its permit to begin construction in one of the spaces.

Maryland

On Wednesday, Governor Wes Moore hosted the 2025 Buy Local Cookout to kick off Maryland Buy Local Week, a statewide initiative encouraging residents to support local agriculture and seafood by incorporating Maryland-grown, produced, or harvested items into their meals from July 17 to 27. The event featured local chefs, food tastings, and highlighted the economic impact of Maryland’s agricultural and seafood industries.

Germantown

D1 Seafood Buffet & Bar (19961 Century Boulevard) in Germantown closed permanently this past spring. The space was previously home to Sushi Legend Cajun Seafood and Bar until December 2023, and before that, The Greene Turtle until 2020. The building was listed as available for sale with a $3.5 million price tag, and now it’s going to auction.

Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred late last night in Germantown. Officers from the 5th District responded to a call at approximately 10:37 pm Wednesday night regarding a shooting in the 20600 block of Shadyside Way.
