A NASA sounding rocket will carry student experiments to suborbital space. The launch is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, with the window opening at 5:30 a.m. EDT. Weather permitting, the rocket may be visible in parts of Maryland and Virginia.

Back in May 2024, we announced that Classic Bakery would be opening a new location at 18195 Village Center Dr. in Olney– its third overall, joining Gaithersburg and Tyson’s Corner. According to their social media post on Wednesday, the new bakery will open its doors on Friday, June 27th.

The Montgomery County Office of Animal Services seized 23 dogs from an unlicensed doggie daycare in Silver Spring on June 24 following a complaint, placing them in protective custody while the investigation remains ongoing.

The public may attend Planning Board meetings in-person, watch them live or on-demand, or listen over the phone. View individual agendas, which are usually made public ten days prior to the start of a meeting. Consult the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) website for their agenda information. For more details, review the list of events below. These events are subject to change. Please note: The Planning Board and Planning Department offices will be closed on Friday, July 4. Royal Farms made its Montgomery County debut when it opened its first MoCo location in Gaithersburg in 2022. Now, the convenience store popular for its fried chicken, is making progress at its upcoming location in Silver Spring.
