Ashton

Montgomery County has released additional information regarding an investigation by the Department of Environmental Protection, in collaboration with the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, which led to the convictions of two individuals for illegally dumping pollutants into a pond in Ashton, resulting in fines and probation. The case, prompted by a citizen report, highlights the county’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws, with the plumbing company involved also paying over $69,000 in cleanup costs.

In the last few days, images of real estate properties available and coming soon in the DC Metro area have been shared indicating that there is a mass exodus from the region. Many local realtors will tell you that’s not the case, and Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors (GCAAR) President-elect Russell Brazil recently shared information to support it.

Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Montgomery County government has announced that the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment survey is now open, allowing residents to provide feedback that will help area hospitals, including Adventist HealthCare, Holy Cross Health, MedStar Health, and Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital, determine which programs to develop and how best to serve the community. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested a 56-year-old Silver Spring man for multiple armed robberies in Montgomery County and surrounding areas, linking him to incidents at Chipotle, Advanced Auto Parts, and a county liquor store before his February 13 arrest. (more…)
