Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, is known for his “One Bite” pizza reviews, where he rates slices on a 1-10 scale after sampling pizza from restaurants nationwide. Gourmet Inspirations, which opened in 2014 after taking over the location that was previously home to Good Fortune (2646 university Blvd W.), will close permanently on January 1st. Cam Rahn Bay, a Vietnamese restaurant connected to Gourmet Inspirations with the same owner, will also close.

Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Butchers Alley is ten years old! To celebrate we’re throwing a can’t-miss cookout on Saturday August 29th from 11am-2pm. We’ll be grilling up free handcrafted burgers for the first 150 customers, tasting some of our favorite products and we’ve got a few fantastic raffle prizes for you like a $100 catering gift card, a free paella party for four and a butcher's pick bundle of our favorite cuts.

MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) encouraging residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle during the holiday season to minimize waste, which typically increases by 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, and offers tips for sustainable practices and proper tree recycling. The Container Store, a leading retailer of organizing solutions, custom spaces, and in-home services,  announced it has filed for voluntary protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on December 22, 2024. The company has two locations in Montgomery County– Gaithersburg and Rockville.

Glenmont

In coordination with Montgomery County and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro), the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the State Highway Administration (SHA) have agreed to make almost seven miles of bus-only lanes on MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) between Silver Spring and Glenmont permanent.
