Police Continue to Investigate Series of Bank Robberies

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a series of bank robberies that began on January 18, 2022. Detectives have released surveillance photos and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect believed to be responsible for four bank robberies in Montgomery County.

On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, 3rd District officers responded to the Sandy Spring Bank, located in the 3500 block of Spencerville Road in Burtonsville, for a bank robbery that just occurred. The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:18 p.m., the male suspect entered the bank and approached the teller window. Once at the window, the suspect slid a note to the teller, announcing the robbery and demanding money. The teller complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect left the bank in an unknown direction.

During the following three bank robberies, the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller window, passed a note announcing the robbery, and demanded cash at the following locations:

M&T Bank in the 12200 block of Tech Road, on Friday, February 18, 2022, at approximately 3:20 p.m.

Capitol One Bank, located in the 13300 block of New Hampshire Avenue on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at approximately 10:05 a.m.

M&T Bank in the 12200 block of Tech Road on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at approximately 3:20 p.m.

The suspect is described as a Black male between 5-feet, 7-inches to 6-feet tall and weighs approximately 160 to 190 pounds. The suspect wears a hooded jacket, surgical mask and gloves. In each robbery, the suspect passed a handwritten note stating that he had a gun and a bomb.
