Silver Spring is the Most Generous City in the US, Rockville is #10!

GoFundMe recently released its 2020 Giving Report where they shared data and trends from the fundraisers this past year.

Two of the most generous cities in the country are in MoCo. Silver Spring was listed as the number one most generous city in the nation, based on number of donations per capita. Rockville is listed as number 10.

The top 10 most generous US Cities:

  1. Silver Spring, MD
  2. Spring, TX
  3. Marietta, GA
  4. Alpharetta, GA
  5. Fort Lauderdale, FL
  6. Alexandria, VA
  7. Berkeley, CA
  8. Evanston, IL
  9. Somerville, MA
  10. Rockville, MD

Interestingly, Maryland did not make the top 10 list of most generous US states.

GoFundMe shared that the top three donated causes this year were for emergencies, business, and community. The fundraisers started in MoCo follow that trend–  you may have seen fundraisers for supporting employees of local businesses, purchasing PPE for healthcare workers, providing meals for frontline workers, and more.
