We have a Flood Watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night for SE Montgomery County, DC, SE Howard County, Prince George’s County and most of Northern Va. that could end with some flakes early Monday morning.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 60s on Sunday, but don’t let that fool you. It will be raining…a lot. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “two to three inches of rain are expected Sunday through late Sunday night with the heaviest rains falling during the afternoon and evening. This amount of rain could cause flooding of small streams, creeks and urban areas.
The potential flip to snow as temps drop and this moves out is not something that should affect the Monday morning commute. It’s more likely in northeast areas and any snow that does fall in MoCo will be wet flakes that will melt upon impact. No accumulation is expected. For a better idea as to the chances of snow, below is a map from the NWS:
As you see, there’s just a 2% for 1 inch or more in most of MoCo with a 15% chance a bit higher up in Frederick. This is the kind of track snow lovers should hope for later in the season when temps are colder and this could be a major snowstorm.
