A Montgomery County, MD man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of a Morgantown, WV resident last summer. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, now-20-year-old Arnold Johnson III, of Montgomery Village, was convicted and sentenced in the shooting death of 21-year-old Rashad Malik Alton of Morgantown.

Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced the reinstatement of state law enforcement resources to support Baltimore’s public safety efforts, marking a renewed collaboration between state and local agencies to reduce violent crime. Maryland State Police arrested three men from Prince George’s and Charles counties and seized multiple firearms following a Maryland Car Rally Task Force investigation tied to an illegal car rally involving about 300 people in the Baltimore Metro Region on June 29, 2025. Search warrants executed on September 3 led to additional firearm seizures, and the suspects face various charges related to unlawful vehicle use, firearm possession, and ammunition violations.

In October, we reported that Zaxbys was entering the Maryland market with three locations along the Eastern Shore. Then, this past spring, Zaxbys announced that it’s planning to open four additional restaurants across Baltimore and Howard counties. Now, Biz Journals reports that the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the county’s first Zaxby’s location.

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has warned that “Maryland residents must register their vehicles with the Maryland MVA” after it was discovered that a large number of Maryland residents are illegally registering their vehicles in Virginia to avoid Maryland’s higher registration fees, titling taxes, and requirement to carry auto insurance.

Customers are eagerly awaiting Maryland’s first Church’s Texas Chicken (formerly Church’s Chicken), which still has plans to open at 7722 Harford Rd. in Parkville, MD. The new location is replacing the former family-owned Greek restaurant, Pita Pan, marking the first Church’s Texas Chicken in Maryland (the company had Maryland locations under its previous ‘Church’s Chicken’ branding, but is now under new ownership).
