In a swift and coordinated response by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), a juvenile suspect was apprehended following an attempted arson incident in Downtown Silver Spring. Commander Jason Cokinos reported the arrest via social media at 10:53pm on the evening of the incident.
A suspect has been apprehended in connection with a stabbing incident at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday afternoon. This incident, which was not random but arose from a dispute between the parties involved, is under active investigation by Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District officers.
Eugene Gligor, 45, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 22 to serve and five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2001 killing of Leslie Preer in Chevy Chase, a case solved in 2024 through forensic genetic genealogical DNA analysis. Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District officers are on the scene of an assault, preliminarily reported as a stabbing, at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday afternoon.
Raphael Mayorga, 21, of Frederick was sentenced to 22 years and 60 days in prison, the maximum allowed by law, in Montgomery County Circuit Court, for a crash that resulted in Montgomery County Police Sergeant Pat Kepp losing both of his legs. Judge Harry Storm departed from the Maryland Sentencing Guidelines, citing the excessive harm caused, the victim being a police officer who had previously warned Mayorga, the State’s recommendation, and the heinous nature of the conduct. U.S. District Court Judge Theodore D. Chuang sentenced Dr. Anissa Maroof, 48, of Potomac, Maryland, to 15 months in federal prison and two years of supervised release for illegally distributing and dispensing controlled substances through her Bethesda medical practice between 2019 and 2022. (more…)
On August 25, at approximately 4:10 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the parking lot in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue following a report of an armed robbery.
