Governor Wes Moore announced that Maryland will appeal the Trump administration’s denial of federal disaster assistance for Western Maryland following severe flooding in May, which caused over $15.8 million in damages. Moore emphasized that the impacted communities met FEMA’s criteria and noted that similar requests were approved under the Trump administration when damage thresholds were exceeded.

After 1,000 days of continuous planning, enrollment recently opened for the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine for the fall 2025 semester. The school, located in Hagerstown, is the first new medical school in Maryland in over 100 years.

The City of Hagerstown has enacted a temporary ordinance effective August 8, 2025 until February 8th, 2026, aimed at maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of public spaces within its limits. This ordinance prohibits sleeping or lodging outdoors in public areas, ensuring that these spaces remain welcoming for all residents and visitors.
