The Montgomery County Department of Transportation announced that for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, county offices will be closed, transit services will operate on holiday or weekend schedules, select commuter services will have modified hours, and parking at public garages and meters in Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Wheaton will be free.

Beginning February 1, 2026, Montgomery County taxicab rates will increase from $2 to $2.50 per mile, and a new $1 nighttime surcharge will apply for trips between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., marking the first meter rate change in more than 15 years.
On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, most Montgomery County transportation services, including Ride On buses, Metrorail, Metrobus, and MARC Train, will operate on regular weekday schedules, with county offices open and parking following normal rules until free parking begins at 8 p.m.

Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation is urging residents to use the County’s Snow Portal ahead of a forecasted one to three inches of snow, offering real-time updates on storm response, road treatment, and Ride On bus service adjustments.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will adjust schedules for 36 Ride On bus routes beginning Sunday, January 11, 2026, including timetable changes on 31 routes and bus bay changes on six routes, to improve efficiency and on-time performance.
Earlier this year, Montgomery County installed more than 200 No Turn on Red signs as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023, known as MC Bill 11-23.
