The Montgomery County Department of Transportation announced that for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, county offices will be closed, transit services will operate on holiday or weekend schedules, select commuter services will have modified hours, and parking at public garages and meters in Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Wheaton will be free.

On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, most Montgomery County transportation services, including Ride On buses, Metrorail, Metrobus, and MARC Train, will operate on regular weekday schedules, with county offices open and parking following normal rules until free parking begins at 8 p.m.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has released winter holiday schedule changes showing that Ride On and Metro services will generally run on weekday schedules on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, while shifting to Sunday or holiday schedules on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Earlier this year, Montgomery County installed more than 200 No Turn on Red signs as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023, known as MC Bill 11-23.
