Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call on the 12200 block of Charles Rd, off of Veirs Mill Rd (near the Korean Korner) at approximately 4:45pm on Saturday, for a tree that fell onto a house and trapped at least some of the occupants.

MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer provided an update stating that there were no injuries and that all 10 occupants are accounted for. The affected families, which include five adults and five children, have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting. Severe damage was caused across the county due to Saturday’s storm.


A severe thunderstorm that rolled into the late afternoon on Saturday, July 29th has caused damage in several parts of Montgomery County (a thunderstorm caused severe damage on Friday, July 28 as well). There are power outages across the county. Reminder: Treat traffic lights without a signal as four-way stops. Incidents reported and photos below:

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a crash at approximately 10pm on Frederick Rd (355) and Ridgemont Avenue near King Farm on Tuesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there was also a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and crews were able to extinguish the fire, but two people were transported to the hospital.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house fire on the 11800blk Goodloe Rd., off Dewey Road, near Viers Mill Elementary School shortly before 11:30 on Tuesday morning. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews arrived to heavy fire conditions.  Two firefighters were treated for non-life threatening injuries and there were no civilian injuries. Damage is estimated to be ~400K and four adults have been displaced.

The origin/cause of the fire is currently under investigation but fire investigators did locate damaged lithium batteries at the scene. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house fire on the 11800blk Goodloe Rd., off Dewey Road, near Viers Mill Elementary School shortly before 11:30 on Tuesday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews arrived to see the fire showing upon arrival. Many readers have written to us via social media from miles away letting us know that the fire is visible. Piringer tweeted a video from the scene shortly after 12:00pm that showed lots of smoke coming from the home as crews continue to work. The video can be seen below.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a dump truck on Monday, July 24 around 4:30pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision occurred on Ridge Rd and Hawkes Rd in Damascus, close to Cedar Grove Elementary School, and involved one person trapped under the truck. EMS evaluated one adult with Priority 2 trauma.

According to MCPD, “Ridge Rd. is closed at Hawkes Rd. as the result of a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.” We will post an update when additional information becomes available.


Headline updated to reflect that Olney’s NNO event is the biggest in Montgomery County

An Olney summer tradition returns on August 1 when local first responders and the community come together to celebrate Olney’s 28th National Night Out (NNO), from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fair Hill shopping center, located at Olney-Sandy Spring Road and Spartan Road.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with rollover and entrapment on Sunday, July 23 around 3pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision occurred on the outer loop I-495 between Old Georgetown Road and River Road, near the Bradley Boulevard overpass. Piringer tweeted that a single vehicle struck and bounced off the median (Jersey wall,) crossed all lanes of traffic and ended up off the road and flipped over in bushes.

One patient was extricated from the vehicle and transported to  the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the Potomac River, in the area of Great Falls, across from Madeira Point ( Billy Goat Trail A) for the report of a swimmer in distress.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, an adult male was swimming from the Virginia shore and had been swept downstream. Rescue boats were on the water within 10 minutes and the swimmer was located and pulled from the water ~6 minutes later by rescue swimmers. 

The patient was transported to the hospital in critical life-threatening condition. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department assisted.  We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Per Rockville Police: Water Main Break/Road Closed Alert – 7/22/23 7:15 a.m. Water main break in the 25000 block of Lindley Terrace (off of Wootton Parkway). Road will be closed for the next several hours. City of Rockville Public Works crews are heading on scene. Water service will disrupted in the area.
