Montgomery County Police responded to a shooting in the 14200 block of Punch St (off of Layhill Rd near Bel Pre/Bonifant in Layhill/Silver Spring) on Monday, September 4. According to MCPD, “At approximately 7:40 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 14200 block of Punch St. for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, his condition is unknown at this time. Officers went into a residence and located two females suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One of the females was pronounced deceased. The other female was transported to an area hospital, her condition is unknown at this time.


Montgomery County Police responded to a call for a shooting in the 14200 block of Punch St (off of Layhill Rd near Bel Pre/Bonifant in Layhill/Silver Spring) on Monday, September 4, around 8pm. Police report that there were injuries sustained and the suspect is in custody. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Friday, September 1, 2023, in the area of East West Highway and Washington Avenue in Silver Spring. The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Josue Abisai Melendez of Hyattsville.

At approximately 1:11 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision.  The preliminary investigation revealed that Melendez was traveling east in a blue Honda Civic on East West Highway, past Washington Avenue. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Honda left the roadway and collided with a tree. Melendez was pronounced dead at the scene.


Montgomery County Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Friday, September 1, 2023, in the area of East West Highway and Washington Avenue. According to MCPD, “At approximately 1:11 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Honda was traveling in the area of East West Highway and Washington Avenue when it left the roadway and collided with a tree. The driver of the Honda, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. A news release will be distributed later today, once more information becomes available. The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of next of kin.”


Per MCPD: A 16-year-old wanted in connection with a Father’s Day homicide is in custody. Isaiah Brown-Hawkins was arrested by Forest Heights police officers on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The Damascus teen is accused of shooting and killing 32-year-old James Joel Austin on Sunday, June 18 in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road in Damascus. Brown-Hawkins drove away in a Honda belonging to Austin. The car was located in Washington, DC, however he has been on the run since the shooting.

Brown-Hawkins was seen driving a stolen vehicle on Audrey Lane in Oxon Hill. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, Brown-Hawkins allegedly rammed police cruisers, got out of the car and ran away. Brown-Hawkins was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. A handgun was found by officers during the pursuit. Detectives requested and obtained a warrant for Brown-Hawkins’ arrest on Monday, June 19. He has been charged with first-degree murder, armed carjacking and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in the area of Frederick Road and Gunners Branch Road in Germantown. The decedent has been identified as 28-year-old David Glenn Jenkins, II  of Germantown.

At approximately 9:49 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision involving a bicyclist.  The preliminary investigation has revealed that Jenkins was traveling east to west across Frederick Road when he was struck by a silver 2005 Acura RSX that was traveling northbound on Frederick Road. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and CRU detectives are investigating the possibility that other vehicles may have been involved with the collision


The Special Victims Investigations Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Christopher Calderon, a missing 14-year-old. Calderon was last seen on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, around 4 p.m., in the 700 block of Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring. He is 5-feet, 4-inches tall, 125 Ibs, with black hair, and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing black t-shirt with the Harley Davidson logo, black cargo shorts, and white Crocs.

Montgomery County Police are investigating a collision that occurred on Wednesday, August 30, in the area of Frederick Road and Gunners Branch Road in Germantown.  According to MCPD: “At approximately 9:49 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision involving a bicyclist.  The preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist was struck by a silver Acura traveling northbound on Frederick Road. 

Detectives are investigating the involvement of additional vehicles in the collision. The driver of the Acura remained at the scene. The bicyclist, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. A news release will be distributed later today, once more information becomes available. The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of next of kin.”


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two auto theft suspects.  On Sunday, August 27, 2023, 2nd District officers responded to the victim’s Bethesda home for the report of a stolen 2018 Black Nissan Rogue. The victim stated that sometime between 6 p.m., on Saturday, August 26 and 1 p.m., on August 27, her car was stolen.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the suspects used the victim’s credit card at multiple locations. Detectives obtained surveillance photos of the suspects.
