Montgomery County, located in the state of Maryland, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1776. The idea to create this county emerged from Thomas S. Wootton, who proposed dividing Frederick County into three smaller counties: Frederick, Montgomery, and Washington. In 1798, a significant legislative act was passed that established five election districts within Montgomery County: Berry, Clarksburg, Cracklin, Medley, and Rockville.

C-SPAN has announced the 2025 winners of its 21st annual StudentCam competition, recognizing students from Silver Spring, Bethesda, Potomac, Germantown, Rockville, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Dermott Foley of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring won the grand prize for his documentary on fentanyl overdose, while other students received second, third, and honorable mention prizes for topics such as affordable housing, climate change, and healthcare policies. Montgomery County Council committees will review two bills on March 27 aimed at expanding tax relief and encouraging housing development. Bill 3-25 proposes increasing income and net worth eligibility for the County’s supplement to the Homeowners’ Tax Credit, while Expedited Bill 2-25 would offer tax incentives for converting vacant commercial properties into residential units with affordable housing requirements. Montgomery County’s 2025 rent stabilization rent increase allowance will be 5.7%, effective July 1, which is lower than the 2024 allowance of 6%. The Rent Stabilization law, which applies to most rental units built in 2002 or earlier, adjusts rent increases annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) and also regulates certain fees, with the 2025 Voluntary Rent Guideline set at 3.3%.

Keanu Carver has made a significant impact on WWE’s Evolve series. Born Kevin Isaiah Robertson, he hails from Montgomery County, having been born in Silver Spring and raised in Takoma Park. A graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, Carver played college football as a defensive tackle for the Temple Owls from 2019 to 2021.
