DC-area television stations NBC4, FOX5, ABC7, and WUSA9 have all released their 2025-2026 winter outlooks, giving residents an early look at what the season may bring. As we do each year, MoCoSnow has compared the four forecasts to highlight similarities, differences, and who is calling for the most, or least, snow across the region.
Every year before winter, MoCoSnow looks at the seasonal outlooks released by the major TV networks in our area, and ABC7 has now shared its forecast for the upcoming season. The headline this year: a near-normal winter with 10-20 inches of snow expected for most of the immediate region.
Each year, MoCoSnow takes a look at the most popular winter outlooks in our region, comparing forecasts from the major local TV networks and respected private meteorologists. One of the most anticipated of the bunch always comes from The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang (CWG), widely regarded as one of the most trusted and influential weather authorities in the DC region.
MoCoSnow is continuing to monitor and compare winter forecasts from the major local television stations. So far, we’ve looked at FOX 5, and NBC4. WUSA9 meteorologist Topper Shutt and the weather team has released their winter outlook for the 2025–2026 season, offering a prediction that places much of the region, including Montgomery County, near or slightly above average snowfall.
FOX 5 DC meteorologist Mike Thomas says the European weeklies are “certainly building the December excitement,” hinting at a potentially cold and snowy start to winter across the region.
As we do every year, our MoCoSnow team summarizes and compares some of the most popular winter outlooks before the winter season begins. NBC4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer has released his 2025-2026 Winter Outlook, calling for a colder-than-average season with above-normal snowfall across the D.C. region. His forecast puts most of Montgomery County in the 18-30 inch range, with Frederick and areas north/west in Maryland possibly seeing 26-40 inches, and Washington, D.C. and areas south in the 13-20 inch range.
Each year, MoCoSnow summarizes and compares some of the most popular winter outlooks before the season begins, including forecasts from all major local networks, The Washington Post, and online meteorologists who’ve built devoted followings across the region. Earlier this week, we looked at FOX 5 DC’s winter forecast, and now we’re turning to one of the most recognizable independent forecasters in Maryland, Justin Berk.
After more than two centuries of forecasting, the Farmers’ Almanac has announced that its 2026 edition will be its last, closing the book on a publication that’s been part of American life since 1818. The editors shared the news in a heartfelt farewell letter, writing:
The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for Central and Southeast Montgomery County from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday, November 7.
Each year, MoCoSnow looks at the different Winter Outlook released by major networks in our area. Thursday morning, FOX 5 DC meteorologists Mike Thomas and Tucker Barnes have released their long-awaited 2025-2026 Winter Outlook, and the Washington region could be in for a true mix of winter weather, from a frigid December to a potentially snow-packed January.
