The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has shared that a significant pattern change is expected across much of the country as an Arctic Outbreak is forecast to spread from the Northern Plains to the south and east, leading to exceptionally high probabilities of below-normal temperatures expected across much of the East. It also comes with a risk of heavy snow, which is just slight for now.

As colder weather approaches and the potential for winter storms looms in January, we take a closer look at the winter outlooks from the four major networks in the D.C. area. While there hasn’t been much winter weather to discuss so far, it’s crucial to remember that winter is just beginning (we are about ten days into) with plenty of opportunities for snowfall and frigid temperatures still ahead.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) always begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Many often use the expressions, “spring forward” and “fall back” to help explain which way the clocks are moving. The National Weather Service (NWS) has stated that a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect along and west of the Alleghenies through Friday PM/Saturday AM. First flakes of the season are possible on Friday, as light snow could fall in the morning.

MCPS today sent a message to the community regarding winter weather and the color-coded statuses that are issued when there is inclement weather. A video (available below) featuring superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor also accompanied the message and some have wondered if the video implies that decisions would be made earlier than usual for the school district.
