Residents across the county have reported receiving a fraudulent text claiming to be from the “Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles” and demanding immediate payment. This agency does not exist, as it is called the Maryland Motor Vehicles Administration in Maryland, and the agency would not communicate with you via text.
The Montgomery County (MD) Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a rise in scam calls where impersonators claim there’s a warrant for arrest and demand payment via prepaid cards. Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Montgomery County Division) responded to Lake Frank in Derwood on Saturday for a juvenile bald eagle caught in fishing line with a hook in its mouth. The eagle was rescued, treated at the Moon Owl Raptor Center, and will be released soon.
