The statewide Chiefs’ Challenge, which emphasizes safety restraint enforcement, begins today, Thursday, May 1, and will run through the entire month of May 2025. Police Departments across the nation will participate in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which focuses on enforcement of each state’s seat belt laws.
Takoma Park Police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred on April 22 at approximately 12:28 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 6900 block of New Hampshire Avenue, near the Sunoco gas station.
The City of Takoma Park, Maryland and Ms. Kakila Cooper, a former dispatcher for the Takoma Park Police Department, have reached an agreement to settle Ms. Cooper’s claims of sex harassment and retaliation for $1 million, according to a news release by the law firm of Correia & Puth.
The Takoma Park Police Department has sent out an alert to the community informing that they have been receiving emails and phone calls from both local residents and out-of-state individuals reporting a concerning scam. Individuals are purporting to work for the City or Police Department and are contacting people with claims that they’ve won a prize, but must first pay taxes or fees to claim it. In some cases, scammers are even sending photos in an attempt to make their communication appear legitimate.
Takoma Park Police are investigating a contact shooting that occurred on Wednesday in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. Police shared that the incident is classified as a contact shooting, meaning the firearm discharged at close range and struck the victim.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 7pm-9pm the City of Takoma Park Police Department will host a Multi-Jurisdictional Public Safety Summit. Law enforcement leaders from the following law enforcement agencies are expected to attend the Summit; the Montgomery County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department, Metropolitan Police Department (DC), Metro Transit Police, Maryland State Police, and Maryland-National Capital Park Police.
