At the beginning of this year, USA Today went on a mission to find the best new restaurants. To find them, the national newspaper asked a panel of food and travel experts to nominate their 20 favorite new restaurants that open led in the past year. Then, readers voted for their top picks to determine the winners. The Farmhouse Bistro at the Crossvines (16601 W Willard Rd, Poolesville, MD) made the list at #9 in the country. Gourmet Inspirations, which opened in 2014 after taking over the location that was previously home to Good Fortune (2646 university Blvd W.), will close permanently on January 1st. Cam Rahn Bay, a Vietnamese restaurant connected to Gourmet Inspirations with the same owner, will also close.

Tuan Vo is the proud owner of Phowheels, a unique Vietnamese culinary venture. Raised in Montgomery County, he attended White Oak Middle School and Springbrook High School, and currently resides in Burtonsville. Construction has now begun on the DMV’s first drive-thru Vietnamese restaurant at Burtonsville Crossing (it will also feature the option to dine-in).

Mackie’s Barbecue opened a little more than a year ago at 5500 Olney Laytonsville Rd in Olney (most recently Umberto’s). The restaurant has made quite an impact in the community in the last year and is the only restaurant in Olney to make Yelp’s 2024 “Top 50 Places to Eat in the MD Burbs” list, which focuses on restaurants located in the Maryland suburbs.

Sixty Vines, the restaurant known for its revolutionary wine on-tap program and vineyard-inspired cuisine, is making its move into Maryland. It was previously reported that the restaurant signed on in Bethesda and now business filings show Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown neighborhood as an address for a “Sixty Vines Montgomery County, LLC” taking over 212 Ellington Blvd– the former home of Pour House.
