Good Fortune Cafe, which has been serving the area since 1994 (according to its website), closed in August at 237 Kentlands Place. At the time an employee shared that they would be returning later in the year in the space that has been home to Happy Uncle in Germantown’s Clopper’s Mill shopping center (18022 Mateny Rd.) for more than 20 years. Today, it was confirmed by Happy Uncle that Good Fortune would be taking over early next year.

This past summer we shared that two Maryland restaurants (the top two) were included in a list of the “Best Crab Cakes in the U.S.” by Food & Wine magazine. As with any list, there were plenty who agree and plenty with differing opinions, and since we are still receiving comments nearly half a year later– today we look at some of the reader submitted comments about other places.

Dave’s Hot Chicken, the hot chicken restaurant chain based in California, will be opening first location in Montgomery County at the upcoming  White Oak Town Center (12345 Columbia Pike). The chain has set an opening date of Friday, November 15th. Initially reported as Maryland’s second location, but it is the state’s fourth.

Eater DC has released its list of “The 18 Best Coffee Shops Around D.C.” and though there are many great coffee shops in the area, it includes just one coffee shop in Maryland– Montgomery County’s very own Takoma Beverage Company (Takoma Bev Co. 6917 Laurel Ave. Takoma Park, MD).

Starbucks has announced that starting November 7, customers in U.S. and Canada company-owned and operated stores will no longer pay extra for customizing their beverage with non-dairy milk – including soymilk, oatmilk, almondmilk and coconutmilk.

The owners of Lone Oak Farm Brewing Company are thrilled have announced the expansion of Lone Oak’s legacy with the opening of Fallen Oak Distilling on the existing brewery property (5000 Olney Laytonsville Road). This will include a speakeasy that will “transport you to the 1920s.” Photos below.
