A major renovation project is officially underway at Stedwick Pool and Bathhouse in Montgomery Village. According to the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF), construction has begun, marking the start of a complete overhaul of one of the community’s most popular summer amenities. The newly upgraded heated pool is anticipated to open in summer 2026.
The Eater DC “38 Essential Restaurants Around DC” list offers a selection of defining culinary destinations that showcase DC and its suburbs. Four restaurants in Maryland are currently on the fall 2025 edition of the list (last updated on October 7th) with three of them in Montgomery County:
Rowan, a piercing studio staffed by licensed nurses, is opening this week in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown. The new studio will be the company’s third Maryland location, joining Bethesda and Annapolis, and its 95th nationwide. A Rowan representative said the store is expected to open by this weekend.

Former FBI Supervisory Special Agent Eduardo Valdivia, 41, of Gaithersburg, was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 80 years in prison, with all but 60 years suspended, after being convicted of multiple sex offenses involving three young women he lured to his tattoo studios under false pretenses. The Shoppers grocery store in Germantown will close its doors next month, according to a letter sent to employees on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Bethesda-based Imagination Stage received a three-year grant from the Kaiser Permanente Fund at the East Bay Community Foundation to expand its educational theater programs promoting children’s mental health. The initiatives include Empathy Quest, an interactive play for elementary students focused on empathy and self-regulation, and RISE UP, a virtual workshop designed to help educators address mental health challenges in schools.
