Laytonsville’s Katie Killacky, who we first featured in 2022 for her work as an actress and longtime acting coach, is seeing her daughters make waves of their own in Hollywood. Killacky, the founder of Capital Coaching Studio, has taught acting from her home in Montgomery County for nearly a decade. It was a sad day in September 1990 when the last of the artist residents said goodbye to their commune home on Frederick Road in Germantown. They left behind their gardens, their lap swimming pool, their treehouse with the triple-chair zipline, their annual masquerade balls; and they took with them their art, their music and their joie de vivre. But the house, the magnificent 125 year-old house with its wrap-around porch and huge fireplace, was not to be torn down– it would be reborn in another location.
In less than 48 hours after the federal government shutdown was announced, two local organizers, Tiffany Kelly and Valarie Davis, mobilized a countywide effort to provide immediate relief to Montgomery County residents affected. The “Rapid Response Event” is taking place at Gaithersburg High School on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 7 pm to 9 pm.
