In the early hours of Thursday, July 31, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue. The incident, reported at approximately 12:09am, occurred in the area of the Red Carpet Inn in Takoma Park.
Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrests of 18-year-old Mario Collins and a 16-year-old male juvenile, both from Washington DC. The arrests are in connection with a stolen vehicle, the possession of a stolen handgun, and the assault on police officers.
The City of Takoma Park is actively pursuing and has recently gained legislative authority to implement an Automated Stop Sign Enforcement Pilot Program, specifically focusing on school zones. The Takoma Park Police Department is inviting the community to join them for a Community Engagement and Informational Session regarding the recently passed Automated Stop Sign Enforcement Bill, which designates Takoma Park as a pilot jurisdiction for this new initiative.

The Takoma Park Police Department has shared that the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a resurfacing project MD 410 (East–West Highway) between Chicago Avenue and MD 195 (Carroll Avenue) in Takoma Park on Monday, July 14. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, July 18, weather permitting.
