As the holiday season approaches, a heartwarming story has emerged from the Clarksburg and Damascus areas, showcasing the incredible bond between local schools and their communities. Following the recognition of social studies resource teacher Ken Buffum’s innovative teaching methods, Topps took an exciting step to further engage the students of Damascus High School. In a heartwarming gesture, the trading card company sent several packs of sports cards to Buffum’s class, allowing the students to experience firsthand the thrill of opening packs and the excitement surrounding collectible cards.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a commercial burglary that occurred on Friday, October 4, 2024, at The Red Rooster restaurant in the 10000 block of Damascus Boulevard. Ken Buffum, a dedicated educator with 19 years of teaching experience—all within Montgomery County Public Schools—has spent the last seven years at Damascus High School. Throughout his career, he has consistently sought innovative methods to engage his students. This year, he has creatively integrated Jayden Daniels’ rookie cards into his economics curriculum, using them as a dynamic tool to illustrate the principles of supply and demand. The trading card company Topps has recognized this engaging approach, highlighting the intersection of education and the enthusiasm surrounding collectible cards in a social media post.
Montgomery Parks has been awarded a $900,000 grant from the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) to design the extension of the Magruder Branch Trail into downtown Damascus.

A new urgent care facility, Innovative Urgent Care, is coming to 9809 Main St. in the space that was home to Pet Valu in the Damascus Center until late 2020. A $500K permit has been issued for the interior work to begin.
