It was a record-breaking night in downtown Washington DC as the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) brought its Takeover Tour to Capital One Arena. The matchup featured the New York Sirens and the Montréal Victoire, marking a major milestone for the league, which launched its inaugural season in January 2024 and now includes eight teams across the United States and Canada.


Beyond MoCo

Sphere Entertainment, the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and Peterson Companies announced plans to pursue development of a Sphere venue at National Harbor, a move that would bring one of the most technologically advanced entertainment destinations in the world to the DMV region.

If approved, National Harbor would become the second U.S. location for Sphere and the first to use the company’s smaller-scale venue design model. The project would also create a new landmark for Maryland while significantly expanding the region’s entertainment and tourism offerings.


Maryland

Terra Gaucha officially opened its doors in Rockville on Sunday, December 28, bringing an authentic Brazilian steakhouse experience to Montgomery County. This past week, “Mr. MoCo” Alex Tsironis attended the restaurant’s grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting, where guests were treated to complimentary food and drinks.

Washington Spirit goalkeeper Lyza Jessee has retired from the NWSL after three professional seasons in DC, she announced today. “I want to sincerely thank the club and fans for their support throughout my career,” said Jessee. “I am so grateful for my time with the Spirit, DC will always feel like home.”
