Slapfish, whose only MoCo location was at 12033 Rockville Pike in the Montrose Crossing shopping center, has closed permanently, according to its Google listing and signage recently posted on the door. The restaurant opened in July 2018, when it gave away 107 lobster rolls as part of its grand opening celebration.

The “modern seafood shack” is a fast casual restaurant with locations primarily on the west coast and Southwestern United States, but has recently opened location across the country. It has been called “the Chipotle of Seafood.” The Rockville location was their first on the east coast, as it joined Cava, Honeygrow, and MOD Pizza at Montrose Crossing. The strip where the restaurant is located was constructed over the previous home of Timpano Italian Chophouse, the restaurant that was demolished to make way for the current structure that was home to Slapfish and is currently home to other fast-casual eateries and stores.

Over the weekend Jay Glazer reported on Fox that Dan Snyder is indeed planning on selling the entire franchise, and not just selling a minority stake to raise funds for any debt or plans for a new stadium. Glazer also reports that the asking price is expected to be approximately $7 Billion, which would be a big return on the $800 million the team went for when Snyder bought the franchise in 1999. According to various reports, many feel the team will sell for the asking price and the Commanders will be under new ownership for the 2023 NFL season.

TMZ previously reported that “Jay-Z and Jeff Bezos, two of the most successful men in America, are interested in buying the Washington Commanders, in light of owner Dan Snyder’s interest in selling the NFL team, sources tell TMZ Sports.” Over the weekend, NBA superstar Kevin Durant (who is from Prince George’s County and attended high school in Montgomery County) expressed interest in being part of an ownership group. He told ESPN that he “would love to give a bit of my money to be part of the Commanders, but we’ll see.” The full Jay Glazer report can be seen in the video below.
