Takoma Park

“Do you have coats, gloves or scarves that you don’t need anymore? Donate them!” The Takoma Park Police Department, in partnership with Adventist Church, the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department, and others, is collecting clean, gently used warm coats in any size from infant to adult.

The coats will be donated to people in need.  This coat drive can make a difference in the lives of others by simply donating coats and jackets that are no longer needed.  We will also accept clean, gently used gloves/mittens and scarves.

“The U.S. now has access to the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted, the first protein-based option, as a booster,” said Stanley C. Erck, President and Chief Executive Officer, Novavax. “According to CDC data, almost 50 percent of adults who received their primary series have yet to receive their first booster dose. Offering another vaccine choice may help increase COVID-19 booster vaccination rates for these adults.”

The FDA EUA decision was based on data from the Phase 3 Prevent-19 clinical trial and from the U.K.-sponsored COV-BOOST trial. In the Phase 3 trial, a single booster dose of the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted was administered to healthy adult participants aged 18 and older approximately eight or 11 months after their primary series. Following a booster dose, antibody levels increased significantly relative to pre-boost levels, rising above levels associated with protection in the Phase 3 trials. Neutralizing antibodies also increased by 34- to 27-fold compared to pre-boost levels when boosted at eight or 11 months. In the COV-BOOST trial, the Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted increased antibody titers when used as a third dose following initial dosing with another authorized COVID-19 vaccine (heterologous boosting).

Kensington

Back in January 2021, we let you know of site plans that were being developed for Kensington Crossing, a new retail development that will be located at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road) in Kensington. In May 2022, Montgomery Planning staff recommended approval (with conditions) for the project. Though it may take some time until construction begins after final approval, Kensington Crossing has already signed it’s first three tenants– M&T Bank, Buffalo Wild Wings GO, and Mezeh.

M&T Bank, which currently has a Kensington location on Howard Avenue, signed on as its first tenant to take over its largest space (2,635 SF). A representative from the Howard Avenue location has told us that the plan is for the branch to relocate to the new space once it’s ready to go.

Maryland

Earlier this week we reported on betting apps touting that mobile betting will soon be available in Maryland. John Martin, director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, said “I am confident there will be mobile wagering in the state of Maryland in 2022” in a webinar earlier this month, and now it appears the first of the licenses will be awarded on November 21st.

Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) Chairman Thomas Brandt announced this this morning that the commission will begin discussing qualified sports betting applicants and potentially award online sports betting licenses at its Nov. 21 meeting, according to Saturday Tradition.

The annual Festival of Lights at the Washington D.C. Temple (9900 Stoneybrook Dr) in Kensington will run from December 1, 2022 to January 2, 2023, including Christmas and New Year’s Day. The lights will be turned on nightly from dusk until 9pm and additional details for the festival will be released in the upcoming weeks.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cancelled the Festival of Lights in 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns and to focus on the temple’s open house and rededication, which took place this past spring.

Date for opening now rests with Safety Commission concurrence on both Silver Line certification and new 7K Return to Service Plan

Per WMATA: After successfully completing two weeks of simulated service, Metro leaders said today that they will be able to open the extension to Dulles Airport Station in time for the start of busy Thanksgiving travel, subject to approvals this week from the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission (WMSC) of two submissions — a data-driven Return to Service Plan for 7000-series railcars, and a safety certification report of the Silver Line extension. “We committed for the Silver Line extension to being operationally ready for the Silver Line extension in October, and we have met our deadline,” said General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. “Since control of the extension was turned over to Metro, we and our partners at the Airports Authority, Fairfax, and Loudoun have worked diligently to complete all of the steps needed for Metro to offer safe and reliable service for rail travel to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County, and we are just awaiting concurrence from our Safety Commission partners.”
