Maryland

The troopers helped apprehend Joe Louis Esquivel, 23, of Hedgesville, West Virginia. He is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree murder, five counts of first-degree assault, five counts of second-degree assault, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, one count of having a handgun illegally in a vehicle, one count of having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, one count of illegal handgun possession and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond in the care and custody of the Washington County Detention Center.

The injured trooper has been identified as Detective Sergeant Phillip Martin. Detective Sergeant Martin is assigned to the Criminal Enforcement Division Western Region. He was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, where he was treated and released on Thursday for injuries sustained in the shooting.

Updates from County Government and Montgomery County Public Schools – Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Health Planning

Update: Sitting as the Board of Health, the Council will receive an update on the County’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its recovery and vaccination efforts. The update will include information from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) about case data, vaccinations, quarantine and testing programs.


Rockville

The Rockville City Police Department invites the community to join a conversation about public safety in Rockville. The town hall meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23 at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive.

Per Rockville Police: Chief Victor V. Brito and other members of the RCPD will be joined by representatives from the Montgomery County Police Department 1st District, Metro Transit Police Department, and the City of Rockville to discuss policing issues and the best way to communicate with the police.

Joe Lewis graduated from Wootton High School in 1997. Since graduating he had held positions such as Manager of Development at Comedy Central, Director of Production at 20th Century Fox, Head of Original Programming at Amazon Studios, and his current position as Head of Television at Amplify Studios. Last night he was a part of multiple Tony Award wins for co-producing A Strange Loop.

This year’s nominations were dominated by the musicals A Strange Loop and MJ The Musical, with 11 and 10 nominations respectively. Another Wootton High School alumnus, Myles Frost, who stars at Michael Jackson, won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

MoCo Government

The legislation would ensure all-electric building standards become part of the County’s building code guaranteeing construction be primed for a zero-greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions future.

The joint announcement was made at Hillandale Gateway, an all-electric, mixed-use future development in Eastern Montgomery County. The Hillandale Gateway buildings are being designed to Passive House standards with high-performance elements that are extremely energy efficient while also creating comfortable and safe indoor environments.


Colesville

A Montgomery County Police Officer was struck this morning around 10:55am on Norwood Rd in front of Blake High School in Colesville/Silver Spring.  The Community Engagement Officer was on foot for a detail at the school’s graduation, according to our traffic and public safety reporter Cordell Pugh. The officer suffered non life-threating injuries and was transported to a trauma center as a precaution.

Germantown

In the afternoon of Thursday, June 9, 2022, Sincere Kareem Daughtry, age 14, was last seen at Northwest High School in the 13500 block of Richter Farm Rd. in Germantown. He is missing from the 18200 block of Smoke House Ct.

Sincere is 5-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs approximately 100 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black/white t-shirt, gray jeans pants and black/white sneakers.

Beyond MoCo

Battle of the Crab Cakes. Governor Hogan crossed the border into Delaware today to claim his March Madness winnings from Governor Carney at Woody’s Dewey Beach. The two governors made a friendly crab cake wager earlier this year when the University of Maryland Terrapins took on the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens in the first round of the 2022 Women’s NCAA Tournament. The Terps took down the Blue Hens 102-71.

2022 OC Air Show. Governor Hogan joined thousands of Marylanders and visitors in Ocean City to watch the sky during the 2022 OC Air Show. The annual event features demonstrations by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Navy’s F-18 Rhino Demo team, the U.S. Special Operations Command Parachute Team, the WWII-era B-25 Bomber, and more.


North Bethesda

Summer House Santa Monica will remain closed for at least the first half of today as the popular Pike & Rose destination awaits inspections following a kitchen fire that caused approximately $25k in damages. The restaurant tells us they hope to reopen for dinner, but that it looks unlikely at the moment. We’ll have an update on the impending reopening of the restaurant as soon as we get word from Summer House.

From yesterday: Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Units were called to the scene of a kitchen fire at Summer House Santa Monica on the 11800 block of Grand Park Avenue in the Pike & Rose development at approximately 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.
