The Winter Weather Advisory was issued earlier this morning for NW MoCo starting 6am Saturday until 3pm. We suspect that this will cover all of MoCo soon.

Model outputs overnight have shown an increase in potential snowfall. Model outputs are not forecasts, and a blend of several different model outputs are often used by meteorologists to create a forecast.

Makeover Montgomery 5 is a three-day conference with a focus on resilience scheduled for September 2022

Wheaton, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), has announced a new April 1 presentation proposal deadline for its conference, Makeover Montgomery 5: Resilient Montgomery, co-sponsored with the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth. This is the fifth time this conference will take place with a focus on seeking regional ideas to help Montgomery County thrive. This year’s conference will focus on all aspects of planning for resiliency in the areas of the economy, neighborhoods, infrastructure, and the environment. Proposals were previously due by March 15.

Gaithersburg

Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code requires municipalities to adopt a comprehensive, or “master” plan composed of various elements, such as Land Use and Transportation, which are intended to guide future growth and development of the City.

In 2019, the State legislature passed HB 1045 requiring all master plans to include a new Housing Element. This new Element is required at a minimum to address the need for affordable housing, including both workforce and low-income housing. The Element may also discuss other facets of housing.

Maryland

Maryland is having a successful recovery from new unemployment claims, with last week’s claims lower than in the same week in 2019, according to WalletHub’s updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Claims Are Recovering the Quickest.

The U.S., in general,  is making significant progress in the fight against COVID-19 with the distribution of the vaccine and boosters, and this has been reflected in the job market, despite new unemployment claims increasing slightly week-over-week on February 28.

MoCoSnow

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Northwest MoCo. This generally includes areas beginning at Germantown and points north/west (Clarksburg, Damascus, Poolesville, etc.).

Central/SE MoCo is not currently included in the advisory, as a little less precipitation is expected (see maps below). I fully expect all of MoCo and most of the DC Metro area to be included in the advisory later this morning.
