Back in July of 2021 it was announced that the Montgomery County Green Bank and Sandy Spring Bank would be teaming up to provide flexible financing to help the Olney Ale House re-open.

We spoke with a representative from Montgomery County Green Bank in September, who let us know that the construction is moving along well and that construction could take around 3-5 months, but that is just an estimate. They said they want to make sure to keep the county up to date on potential activities around the reopening and would provide additional information soon. We have not heard any additional information since.

Kiki Rice, the No. 2 women’s basketball recruit in the Class of 2022, has been named the 2022 Naismith Girls’ High School Player of the Year.

Rice, a 5’11 Bethesda resident, has helped lead Sidwell Friends to an undefeated record and #1 ranking in the nation. Named for the inventor of the game, the Naismith award is considered among the highest—if not the highest—award in high school and college basketball. “My teammates and my coaches played a huge role in me getting this award,” Rice said in an article on the Sidwell Friends website. “It’s an individual award, but someone who isn’t on a great team and who isn’t being pushed every day is not going to win this award.”

Highways / Interstates

A convoy of up to 2,000 vehicles is expected to leave Hagerstown tomorrow morning and head towards Washington, DC to protest COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates.  According to Zachary Petrizzo of the Daily Beast, “the People’s Convoy here in Hagerstown Maryland is much more organized then other trucker protests we have seen. At least 120 diesel trucks and hundreds of SUV/military-type vehicles/cars. They could easily shut down the Beltway in the morning.”

Similar planned convoys over the past week never materialized. On February 23, a convoy organized by Bob Bolus out of Pennsylvania was called off after less than ten vehicles participated.
