Amazon announced on Wednesday that it plans to close all 68 of its brick-and-mortar bookstores, pop-ups and shops carrying toys and home goods (including Amazon 4 Star) in the United States and United Kingdom, per Reuters.

Amazon has an Amazon 4 Star location in Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and one that was planned for Germantown, with signage at that location recently going up. The Montgomery Mall Amazon 4 Star location will be closing permanently on march 19th, the store confirmed today.  The Germantown location will no longer be opening, despite the recent signage that was erected prior to Amazon’s announcement.

Olney

Salt & Vine is working hard at gearing towards its debut in Olney, hoping to open by Labor Day, the restaurant tells us. It will be taking over the Olney House, which was previously the home of Ricciuti’s at 3308 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd.

Ricciuti’s closed permanently in February of 2020 and Salt & Vine was announced just prior to the longtime restaurant’s closure. That summer, the Salt & Vine pizza truck made its debut. Salt & Vine owner Thomas Zippelli, told us the initial plan was to have the truck parked out front of the restaurant until renovations were completed.

Aspen Hill

My Mom’s Place flower shop on Georgia Avenue was nothing but a pad of dirt when the Ember family family took over the space 50 years ago in the early 70s. They built up the location to be one of the most iconic flower shops in the area.

While the stand has been closed since the end of December, Mary Jo Ember who also owns Aspen Hill Florist (3833 Aspen Hill Rd in Northgate Plaza) across the street, has told us that it won’t be returning.
