The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1.3 million in grants to three local organizations: Elite Soccer Youth Development Academy, Identity, Inc., and Tree of Hope Association, Inc., to support peer-led, culturally responsive programs addressing youth mental health and substance use, particularly among Black and Latino youth. Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (B-CC) is undergoing a leadership transition as Principal Dr. Shelton Mooney has made the decision to step down and has accepted a new role within Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), according to a letter sent to the B-CC community. Dr. Mooney will be moving to James Hubert Blake High School to serve as an assistant principal, a change from an earlier communication that had placed him at Albert Einstein High School.
In April, a traffic light was installed at the intersection of Watkins Mill Rd. and Russell Ave. in Gaithersburg. After a period of time where the lights remained covered and a brief period of time consisting of a flashing red lights, the traffic lights are now fully operational.
