Alert Montgomery issued the following on Tuesday, December 31: “A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Wednesday, 1/1. According to District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos, a community member in downtown Silver Spring spotted a suspect breaking into cars around 3 AM and called 911, enabling MCPD 3rd District officers to swiftly apprehend the individual. On January 20, 2023 The Give A Hoot Comedy Club opened in Gaithersburg (16143 Shady Grove Rd.), making it the first full-time comedy club in Montgomery County. It began with a mission “Comedy For the Community”, raising money for non-profit organizations in the county through comedy. The club, which was founded by Irwin Weinstein, Ken Watter and Courtland Shaffer-Kelly, raised over $30,000 for local non-profits in 2024 (video of the experience can be seen below).

The Metropolitan Police Department (Washington DC) announced the arrest of a suspect in an assault that occurred in Southwest near The Wharf. The suspect is 25-year-old Nathan Cinada of Silver Spring, Maryland.
