The Maryland Equitable Justice Commission (MEJC) has proposed 18 recommendations to address the state’s high incarceration rates and racial disparities in the criminal justice system, focusing on reforms in sentencing, reentry programs, trauma-informed care, youth justice, and parole processes. The initiatives aim to reduce the disproportionate incarceration of Black Marylanders, who make up 71% of the prison population despite being 30% of the state’s residents. (more…)

On Friday, Governor Wes Moore and Maryland’s congressional delegation announced the expansion of the Maryland Defense Technology Commercialization Center (DefTech) through a $585,463 Department of Defense grant and state matching funds, aiming to support 30 startups and small businesses in leveraging federal resources for technology commercialization.

A tavern established in 1750 in Annapolis (Anne Arundel County), a saloon that opened in 1775 (Baltimore), and an inn that opened its doors in Potomac in 1860 (Montgomery County) make up the three oldest restaurants in the state of Maryland that continue to operate today. Per Webster’s, a restaurant is a business place where meals or refreshments may be bought.
