Gaithersburg

Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Quince Orchard Cougars stood tall once again, defeating the Wise Pumas 24-13 in the Maryland Class 4A state championship. The victory marked Quince Orchard’s third title in four years, a fitting redemption after last year’s unexpected playoff exit.

Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Clarksburg

As the holiday season approaches, a heartwarming story has emerged from the Clarksburg and Damascus areas, showcasing the incredible bond between local schools and their communities. Mimi Cao has shared with us that recently, a group of dedicated parents, student leaders, and school principals came together to create a truly enchanting experience for the children at Cedar Grove Elementary School (photos below).

Education

Earlier today we reported that Wootton High School Principal Douglas Nelson has been placed on leave following an incident where a racial slur was found written on a student’s desk, according to a report by ABC7. MCPS Spokesperson Liliana Lopez confirmed that “the principal has been placed on leave.” but did not provide any additional details. As far as we are aware, this his not been communicated to the Wootton community. Since that report, earlier today, a new letter has been sent to the Wootton community informing of an allegation that a staff member used the N-word when discussing the incident from Monday, December 3rd. The full letter to the community, sent by Chief of Schools Pete Moran, can be seen below:

DMV

A gingerbread wonderland on a bright winter blue backdrop highlights Metro’s latest holiday wrapped train and buses. Both started bringing customers holiday cheer on December 5. The special vehicles are adorned with gingerbread people, snowmen, gingerbread houses, ornaments, bells and stars. The inside is also decked out with holiday spirit. This year’s theme is “Treat yourself to a sweet ride this holiday season.” Metro is always your best bet for getting around the DMV region this holiday season — and your fast, reliable, easy trip can be made even better by catching these limited-edition vehicles.
