This Saturday, October 28th, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington are once again hosting their annual Halloween Movie Night. This year, “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” will be shown at dusk in St. Paul Park on the big screen. Costumes are encouraged for all attendees. The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington will have refreshments available for purchase in the Park, including pizza, popcorn, and candy. Glowsticks will be available as well!

This year, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department will also be visiting BabyCat Brewery’s 1st Halloween-iversary party. According to the Department’s Instagram story, they’ll bring one of their Fire Engines to the Brewery from 12PM-3PM.

The Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their fall open house, along with a local vendor fair, this Sunday (October 8) from 12PM to 4PM at 19801 Beallsville Road Beallsville, MD 20839. According to the UMCVFD, the event will feature a pumpkin patch, hay rides, Fire & Rescue Service demonstrations, and police vehicles on display. Additionally more than 30 vendors will be present at this Sunday’s event. Visitors can enjoy free hot dogs, Cotton Candy, and giveaways for children.

At their newly-expanded Beallsville Road firehouse, the Upper Montgomery County VFD currently has an ambulance, Canteen Unit, several boats paired with support vehicles as part of their Swiftwater Rescue Team, Medic Unit, Brush Truck, Brush Engine, Rescue Engine, and Tanker. The units responded to more than 1,200 calls in 2022.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a hit and run involving a vehicle and utility poles at the intersection of Bird Road and Batchelor’s Forest Road in Olney around 7:30pm on Tuesday, April 25. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the road will be closed for a significant amount of time due the damaged utility poles and “live” wires down. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving two vehicles on Tuesday, April 25 around 12pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collicion occurred at the interscetion of Parkland Dr & Faroe Pl in Wheaton. One adult was transported to the hospital with Priority 2 trauma. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a collision involving a Montgomery County Public Schools bus on Monday, April 24, around 9:30am in the 13000 block of Old Columbia Pike in Fairland.

Four children (initially reported as five) and the driver were on the bus at the time of the collision. According to MCPD, “one child was extricated from the bus, but everyone was transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries” The ages of the children have not yet been released. According to a report, the bus was traveling to Fairland Elementary School.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. We will post an update when additional information is available.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a small house fire on Eldrid Ct in Silver Spring on Saturday, April 23. According to the Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a low pressure gas line in a basement utility room ignited after the home was struck by lightning. There was minor damage to the home and no injuries reported.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire on Lynbrook Dr in Bethesda on Friday, April 21, around 6am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a neighbor across the street called 9-1-1 after seeing a fire on the porch of the two-story brick house. The lone occupant of the home was alerted by smoke alarm and self evacuated. Approximately 45 MCFRS firefighters responded to the scene and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Piringer reports there was “extensive clutter throughout house” and that the fire likely started on the porch. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 10500blk of Tralee Ter in Damascus on Tuesday, April 18. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated on the exterior of the three-story townhome and spread to the 2nd fl and attic. The cause of the fire is believed to be an outdoor electrical outlet. Damage is estimated to be ~$120K and there were no injuries reported. Four adults and four children have been displaced. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire on Sunday, April 16 at approximately 5:15am in the 19500 blk of Farmingham Dr in Gaithersburg. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was caused by an unattended burning candle in a 2nd floor bedroom of the two-story single family home. Smoke alarms alerted the residents and there were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated to be ~$35K, including $10K structural and $25K contents. One family that includes two adults, three children, two dogs, two guinea pigs and a pet ferret will be likely be displaced.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire on Hiawatha Ln. in Derwood on Thursday morning, April 13. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the origin/cause was initially believed to be an e-scooter that was charging in the basement that ignited nearby combustibles, however, “MCFRS indicate ‘discarded smoking materials’ cannot be ruled out, thus undetermined, nonetheless the cause is accidental in nature.” Approximately 65 firefighters responded to the scene and damage is estimated to be ~$650K.

There were no injuries reported and a total of 12 people have been displaced, include two adults and five children from the townhouse the fire originated, and five adults from a townhouse next door. Crabbs Branch Way was closed between Indianola Dr. and Redland Rd. on Thursdat morning for an extended period as the result of the fire rescue activity.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire on Hiawatha Ln. in Derwood on Thursday morning. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the bulk of the fire was in basement of the townhome and has been extinguished. All occupants are reported to have made it out of the home safely and firefighters are checking neighboring exposure. There were no injuries reported. According to Montgomery County Police, Crabbs Branch Way is closed between Indianola Dr. and Redland Rd. as the result of fire rescue activity. Drivers should expect delays and seek an alternate route.
