Montgomery County Man Charged in Adelphi Fatal Shooting

Prince George’s County Police have announced that a Takoma Park man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on March 23.

Per the news release: Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a recent fatal shooting. The suspect is 36-year-old Jamar Welch Sr. of Takoma Park. He is charged with fatally shooting 43-year-old Charles Dent of Hyattsville.

On March 23, 2024, at approximately 6:45 pm, officers responded to the 1800 block of Metzerott Road for the report of a shooting. Officers located Dent outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot the victim during a dispute. The victim and suspect were known to each other.

Welch was taken into custody in Washington, DC, where he remains pending extradition to Prince George’s County. He is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges.
