MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Units were called to the 1000 block of Travis Lane of the Montgomery Meadows neighborhood in Gaithersburg after reports of a house fire just before 6pm on Thursday evening, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

Upon arrival units found heavy smoke coming from the 2 story townhouse, from what was initially believed to be a kitchen fire. The visible fire on the first floor was quickly knocked out.

The United States Mint has added NASA Astronaut Sally Ride to its “American Women Quarters” program. An event was held yesterday, April 21, at 10 a.m. at Dr. Sally K. Ride Elementary School in Germantown to celebrate the release of the Dr. Sally Ride Quarter.

Per Montgomery County Police, For Immediate Release: Friday, April 22, 2022

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an attempted commercial robbery of the Exhale Smoke Shop in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue. Detectives have released surveillance video of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.


Glenmont

Last July we let you know that Starbucks would be moving in to the Glenmont Shopping Center, taking over the location what was previously home to Capital One and a Chevy Chase banks (2315 Randolph Road).

The store is now open…partially. We have been told that the location is only opening its drive-thru today and will open the cafe portion of the store this weekend.

The Amendment to the Master Plan for Historic Preservation is the first Mid-Century Modern historic district in Montgomery County

Montgomery Planning has announced the approval by the Montgomery County Council of an Amendment to the Master Plan for Historic Preservation of the Potomac Overlook Historic District. The Amendment was approved on April 19 by the County Council and covers nineteen houses located approximately two-and-a-half miles to the southwest of downtown Bethesda and overlooking the Potomac River. Potomac Overlook is the first Mid-Century Modern historic district in Montgomery County.
