An Olney summer tradition returns on August 6th when local first responders and the community join to celebrate Olney’s 29th National Night Out (NNO), from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Shops at Fair Hill, located at Olney-Sandy Spring and Spartan Roads.

Education

Last week, we reported that The University of Maryland College of Education had named former MCPS superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight as its inaugural Dean’s Fellow and Superintendent in Residence, effective August 23. According to the University of Maryland, the new position has been created “to help strengthen partnerships between the college and PK-12 schools across the state.” (more…)


Gaithersburg

The building that was home to Famous Dave’s and Diya Bistro at 917 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg is set to be demolished. it has been fenced off for a while, with signage for Monocacy Custom Services (Excavation and Demolition) up on the fence. Last month we reported that an amendment to the Schematic Development Plan (SDP) was filed, requesting to construct 297 unit multi-family building on the corner of Quince Orchard Rd and Great Seneca Highway.

MedStar Health, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Omega Omega Chapter, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) rolled up their sleeves for a hands-only CPR/AED training event held at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy.

Actor Michael Ealy has recently made a splash in his recurring role on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’– the second  series that’s part of STARZ’ Power Universe. Michael Ealy, then known as Michael Brown, was born in D.C. and raised in Montgomery County where he grew up in Silver Spring and graduated from Springbrook High School (later attending the University of Maryland).
