Beyond MoCo

Water Country USA, touted as the Mid-Atlantic’s largest outdoor water park (and the largest water park in Virginia), is located in York County, Virginia, near Williamsburg (176 Water Country Pkwy.). The water park offers live entertainment, shops and restaurants, water rides, and other family attractions. The park turns 40 years old this summer and is a popular destination for many nearby, as it’s approximately 150 miles south of D.C. and about 2.5 hours away.

Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg’s Transportation Committee previously identified the I-370 Bicycle Connection project as a key connection from West Deer Park Road to Industrial Drive. Gaithersburg has moved forward with soliciting consultant support for the project (solicitation indicates proposals will be due in the beginning part of August 2024).

1:07pm Update: All lanes of Hungerford Drive (MD355) at College Parkway reopened from earlier traffic incident. Expect residual delays.

“A traffic incident has closed all lanes of Hungerford Drive (MD355) at College Parkway [in Rockville] as of 12:28 on Thursday afternoon. Expect significant delays and seek alternate route.” per Alert Montgomery.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a vehicle fire on Thursday morning on MD 200/ICC. According to various readers, several lanes were shut down, but Tim Pruss (@mydronepro) has reported that traffic is moving again as of 9am. The Washington Post’s Zoe Glasser recently went out to find the DC area’s “best ice cream”– trying 12 shops in two weeks and rating them by flavor, texture, and scoop size to come up with a total score. Three ice cream shops, one in VA, one in DC, and one in MD (right here in Montgomery County), tied for the highest total score.
