Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education will formally appoint Dr. Thomas Taylor as the next superintendent of schools at its regular business meeting meeting June 25.

Per MCPS: Dr. Taylor has more than 25 years of experience as an educator, with more than 12 years in district level leadership and 6 years as a superintendent. He is currently the superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools in Virginia and has an established track record of success as an education leader. Dr. Taylor was named Virginia Region III Superintendent of the Year in 2024, honoring the student-focused work he led in Stafford County.


Crime

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the murders of two 20-year-old shooting victims, Quincy Johnson, of Takoma Park, and D’Andre Wint, of Lanham. Both were shot and killed on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s) in this case.

Crime

A 24-year-old has been arrested for his involvement in a November 2023 homicide. Jose Ramon Ventura, who has no known address, is charged with accessory after the fact for driving and transporting two individuals believed to be responsible for the shooting death of 20-year-old Orlando Alexander Satz, Jr.

MoCo Recreation

Due to the Heat Emergency Alert all Montgomery County Recreation outdoor programs and activities are cancelled this weekend, Saturday June 22 and Sunday, June 23. All Montgomery County Recreation indoor activities located in Montgomery County Public School facilities are also cancelled.

I-270

Alert Montgomery has issued a traffic advisory on Friday morning: “Northbound I-270 is closed between Montrose Road and West Montgomery Avenue due to a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays. For more information, contact Maryland State Police.”
