Montgomery Planning

The Montgomery County Council voted to reappoint Mitra Pedoeem to the  Montgomery County Planning Board at its June 24 meeting. Pedoeem, who was first appointed in 2023 to fill a partial term, and has been serving as Vice Chair under Planning Board Chair Artie Harris, will now serve a four-year term on the Planning Board.

Community

The community is rallying around 22-year-old Kyler Emmanuel and his family after he was struck by the driver of a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Dorsey Rd. in Hanover, MD (Anne Arundel County) early Saturday morning. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to Kyler and his family with medical expenses, rehabilitation, and transportation. Additional details from the fundraiser can be seen below:

Derwood

The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) at 7315 Muncaster Mill Rd. in Derwood has fully restored air conditioning following a mechanical failure that caused rising temperatures inside its near-capacity facility. The issue, caused by a failed motor in the building’s cooling system, was resolved by the Department of General Services (DGS). With the system now fully operational, the shelter has ended its emergency response efforts and resumed normal operations. (more…)

Cristian Saucedo and Victor Nava, who first crossed paths while working at Maiz64 in DC– Cristian as a chef and Victor as a sommelier– are now the creative forces behind Tato’s, a newly opened potato-centric dining concept in Comma’s Food Hall at Ellsworth Place Mall in Downtown Silver Spring.

Downtown Silver Spring

J&J Mex-Taqueria first opened in DC about a decade ago. The restaurant has since opened additional locations and is currently in a soft opening phase at Commas Food Hall in Ellsworth Place Mall (8661 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring, MD). While J&J operated at nearby Solaire Social (that stall is now known as Ay Mamma), diners shared that the J&J Supreme burrito is the “best burrito in Maryland and DC”– a distinction that was echoed by fellow stall operators at Solaire.

Maryland

The City of Rockville is poised for a significant enhancement to one of its recreational spaces, thanks to Maryland’s Community Parks and Playgrounds program. As part of Governor Wes Moore’s FY 2026 budget, Rockville has been allocated $225,000 for the replacement of the playground at Fallsgrove Park.
