Update: Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision That Occurred Monday Night on Midcounty Highway in Gaithersburg, Victim’s Name Released

UPDATE: December 1, 2021: Victim’s Name Released in November 29 Fatality

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit have identified the victim in the November 29 fatality as 49-year-old Anupom Ghosh from Gaithersburg.

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating the November 29 fatal collision that occurred at the intersection of Midcounty Hwy. and Saybrooke Oaks Blvd. in Gaithersburg.

At approximately 7:52 p.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a traffic collision involving an over-turned vehicle.

The investigation by detectives has determined that the operator of a black 2021 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Midcounty Hwy., approaching Saybrooke Oaks Blvd. The operator of a maroon 2018 Honda CRV was traveling northbound on Midcounty Hwy. and was attempting to make a left turn onto westbound Saybrooke Oaks Blvd. The two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Midcounty Hwy. The collision caused the Honda CRV to begin to roll and strike a large metal traffic light support pole before coming to rest on its side.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel extricated both drivers from their vehicles.

The operator of the Toyota Camry was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the Honda CRV was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to his injuries. The decedent was identified as a 49-year-old male from Gaithersburg.

The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of family. This is an active and ongoing investigation.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
