At today’s Board of Education meeting, the authorization will be requested to receive and expend, subject to County Council approval, a Fiscal Year 2025 supplemental appropriation of $2,000,000 for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to install vape detectors at each high school.

Maryland

With approximately 17.9 million veterans living in the U.S. in 2024, the non-profit organization SmileHub today released new reports on the Best Charities for Veterans and the States that Care the Most About Veterans in 2024, in appreciation for those who have served our country. Maryland came in ranked 7th overall.

Beyond MoCo

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is offering a reward of $10,000 for credible information leading to the recovery of Mrs. Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson. An update by the 25th Infantry Division on social media stated that Mischa Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II (of Frederick, MD) is currently in military pretrial confinement in Hawaii.

DMV

According to a recent survey designed to find the “top 10 airports with the longest walks”, by KURU Footwear and reported by Reader’s Digest, Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD) came in second overall with the longest distance one has to walk at the airport (check-in to gate) coming in at 1.62 miles.

Bethesda

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will begin its semi-annual cleaning of 21 parking garages in Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Wheaton starting September 9 and ending November 3. The cleanings will occur during nights and weekends, with some garages experiencing partial closures.
