Education

MCPS has shared that the Auto Dealer Education Institute (ADEI) recognized 25 automotive technician apprentices, including 15 from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), during an Aug. 28 ceremony at Montgomery College. According to MCPS, the event brought together graduates, their families, local dealers, community partners and local representatives to celebrate the achievements of these future industry leaders. The event also welcomed a new class of apprentices beginning their training this fall.

Bethesda

The property that houses Pines of Rome, a Bethesda dining landmark with more than five decades of history, has been listed for sale with an asking price of $3.75 million. Located at 4918 Cordell Avenue, the freestanding building offers 4,012 square feet of space on a 5,250-square-foot lot. A representative from The Restaurant Broker, which is handling the listing, tells us the sale is due to Chef/Owner Marco Troiano’s plan to retire.

Maryland

It has now been 20 years since Tristan Courtland Turner disappeared, and his case remains unsolved. Turner, who was 22 at the time, was last seen on August 20, 2005, leaving his home in Montgomery Village, Maryland, to travel to Baltimore. He never returned and has not been heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, Turner was driving a borrowed black 2002 Honda Civic Del Sol with Maryland license plates.

A significant collision occurred this morning on the eastbound lanes of MD200 (ICC) between New Hampshire Avenue and Route 29. The incident involved a pedestrian in the highway work zone, causing immediate response from several emergency services.

Maryland

According to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), more than 200 “No Turn on Red” signs have recently been installed across Montgomery County as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (MC Bill 11-23). The measure requires MCDOT to add the signs to designated traffic lights unless a safety risk is identified. (more…)
