Each month, Eater DC releases its list of the best new restaurants to open in the DC Metro area and September’s edition features one Maryland restaurant, located right here in Montgomery County. Dok Khao recently opened at 8551 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase Lake (Chevy Chase, MD).

Montgomery Village

A dark chapter that occurred in Montgomery Village has resurfaced in Prime Video’s new three-part docuseries Abandoned: The Woman in the Decaying House, adapted from the award-winning podcast by Brazilian journalist Chico Felitti. The gripping documentary premiered on August 15, 2025 on Amazon Prime Video and revisits a shocking case from Montgomery Village, recounting how Margarida and René Bonetti were accused of enslaving their long-time family maid, Hilda Rosa dos Santos, during their years living here.

Baltimore

Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced the reinstatement of state law enforcement resources to support Baltimore’s public safety efforts, marking a renewed collaboration between state and local agencies to reduce violent crime. The partnership leverages personnel from the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police to assist the Baltimore Police Department, following record declines in homicides and shootings and aiming to further improve community safety through coordinated enforcement and resource sharing. Germantown

Montgomery County is reminding residents that the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is offering free back-to-school vaccinations for children from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade at multiple locations across the County through the end of September. These vaccines are available at no cost to County residents missing any required immunizations, and parents are encouraged to schedule an appointment to ensure their children are ready for the 2025-2026 school year. A Montgomery County woman won the $77,000 top prize on the $10 Lucky 7s Multiplier scratch-off game, purchased at Brighton Beer & Wine on 225 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, and plans to use the winnings to pay off her house and save for her family’s future.
